For what it's worth, the actual statue unveiling went off without a hitch on March 3rd, featuring a much more legitimate statue of Beckham which now takes pride of place outside the LA Galaxy stadium.

The legendary footballer is due to have a statue unveiled at his former team LA Galaxy's stadium, but before the official reveal James chose to make some mischief.

Late Late Show host James Corden pulled off the prank involving actors and a fake statue with a camera crew to document it all.

David Beckham reacts to a joke statue, created by friend and talk show host James Corden.

"It doesn't really look nothing like me though, look at my eyes". The only thing that's good is that hair an that's about it. It doesn't really look nothing like me.

"My parents are coming from London, my wife is coming over".

"There's no way that can go at the front of the stadium. Look how long my arms are, I honestly look like Stretch Armstrong!"

But Beckham couldn't help smiling when a forklift driver "accidentally" crashed into the statue ― and Corden emerged to reveal the prank and demand, "What's happened?" The ex-player still wasn't happy but at least remarked to the guilty party, "You've probably done me a favour there". That's when Corden appeared and laughter ensued as the prank was revealed.

Dead set, it looks closer to Beavis and/or Butthead than anything even remotely resembling one of the most recognisable football stars of all time.

The sketch was filmed just before a real statue in Beckham's honour was revealed outside the Dignity Health Sports Park in California, the home of Beckham's former USA football team.
