Two Highly Contagious Cases of Measles Reported in CT

A possible measles case was reported in a child in western Bell County, according to the Bell County Public Health District.

De Guzman expressed concerns over the "alarming" number of measles cases, noting that patients now have to share beds for the hospital to accommodate all of them. The department told the Associated Press that of those who were affected by the virus, none of them had been vaccinated.

According to CT health officials, the answer is probably not.

Two other outbreaks have also been reported this year, the CDC said, in New York state and New York City. "However, it is easily preventable". The second, called the MMRV vaccine, protects children from measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox.

At least 50 confirmed cases in the northwest and health officials are anxious it could continue to rise.

As with a similar outbreak among Orthodox Jews in NY state, almost all of the infected were unvaccinated.

"Measles in Washington has spread and health officials urge immunization", the Washington State Department of Health says.

Children who are deficient in vitamin A are at higher risk for severe complications from measles if they get the disease, but most children in the USA receive sufficient amounts in their diet.

This year, Washington state is averaging more than one new measles case a day as officials try to stop the disease's spread.

Also on Monday, Harris County confirmed three cases of the measles in their area.

The measles vaccine - known as the MMR vaccine - is very effective. Majority were children under 5.

People may have been exposed to the unsafe disease at more than three dozen locations, many in neighboring OR, such as Portland International Airport and the Moda Center, home to the Portland Trail Blazers. This is the most common cause of death from the illness.

The ongoing outbreak and the perceived need for home remedies is a reminder that herd immunity - the indirect protection of non-vaccinated people that occurs when a large percentage of the population has been vaccinated - has broken down. Children less than 5 years old and adults older than 20 are at highest risk of complications.

Incubation for measles is usually 7 to 21 days.

One out of 1,000 get encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain, that can lead to seizures, deafness, or even brain damage.

Cindy Lesinger, immunization division director, Alabama Department of Public Health, said without a doubt that everybody should be vaccinated.
