The campus will serve both as an advanced manufacturing facility and a hub for high technology innovation for the region, according to a statement released at 11:50 a.m.

Braun Road is closed to thru traffic near the Foxconn site in Mount Pleasant, as a steady stream of dump trucks travels on the road Thursday August 9, 2018.

"Foxconn continues to move forward in Wisconsin!" he said.

The surprise announcement followed heavy backlash in Wisconsin, which in 2017 agreed to pay the prominent electronics maker and supplier to Apple at least $3 billion in state tax incentives.

Hogan, chief executive of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, also disputed the Nikkei's claim that Evers was attempting to renegotiate side deals with the company.

Following a "personal conversation" between its CEO and President Trump, Foxconn said Friday that it was once again altering its plans for a controversial facility it's planning to build in Wisconsin.

Mount Pleasant resident Paul Pham said he won't be sold on the deal until Foxconn's commitment to 13,000 jobs are fulfilled.

Foxconn will proceed with its construction of a self-driving vehicle facility and a sixth generation LCD fab plant in Wisconsin after discussions with United States President Donald Trump about the project, the company's chairman Terry Gou (郭台銘) said Saturday.

Advocate Aurora unveiled plans to build a hospital, medical office building and two clinics in the region in May 2018, about eight months after Foxconn chose to build its plant in the area.

Mr Trump has repeatedly touted Foxconn's investment in Wisconsin - a politically important state - as proof his economic policies are working.

The news capped a week of reversals about the Taiwanese company's plans in the state.

But as journalist Aaron Rupar noted on Twitter, the information in the CNBC article is hardly great news for Wisconsin's blue-collar workers.

The credit rating agency Moody's Investors Service noted the state's obligation on the Foxconn project in a statement Thursday, which forecasts financial risks for Mount Pleasant, Racine County and Wisconsin.

After Gou's latest conversation with Trump, Foxconn released a statement Friday in the USA, saying that it was moving forward with its planned construction of a Generation 6 fab facility in the Wisconn Valley Science and Technology Park.

But Foxconn's repeated changes to its plans led critics of the project this week to accuse Foxconn of a "bait and switch". A Gen 6 factory typically builds screens for smartphones, tablets and small televisions.

"I'm comfortable that they're still committed to the state", Evers told reporters Friday, according to The Cap Times. He said he also met with Trump to discuss the Wisconsin plant during a trip to the December.
