Dhawan made 30, Rishabh Pant 40 and MS Dhoni brought the crowd to its feet with an entertaining cameo of 20 as India made 162 for three without looking troubled.

India are yet to beat New Zealand in a T20I in New Zealand, having lost all three they have played in the country to date, and would be looking to keep the series alive going into Hamilton, and give themselves a shot at rounding off their longish summer in the southern hemisphere without a series loss. For NZ Sodhi, Ferguson and Mitchell claimed one wicket each.

The captain led from the front, scoring 50 off 29 balls to ensure a seven-wicket win for India, their first in a T20 on New Zealand soil.

"The team could also try pairing Krunal Pandya with other experienced spinners in the squad for the remaining matches".

It was a much-improved performance by the Indian bowlers with Bhuvneshwar Kumar removing Tim Seifert (12) in the third over inducing an inside edge to Dhoni behind the stumps.

New Zealand made 158 for eight batting first in the second Twenty20 match against India at Auckland's Eden Park on Friday.

That was what the review seemed to show as well, with the "Hotspot" technology showing a mark on Mitchell's bat. However, when the DRS showed the ball hitting all three wickets the verdict for lbw was upheld by TV umpire Haig, to Williamson's shock.

Krunal then came back to pick up the wicket of Kane Williamson, his third and India's fourth of the innings.

Colin de Grandhomme scores his first fifty in T20Is. Pant hit four boundaries and a six in all. Two more sixes off successive balls followed to spoil Krunal's figures somewhat - though 3/28 in four overs is very good 0 - but matters were contained by Chahal, Hardik and Khaleel between the 13th and 15th overs.

On the fourth delivery of the 16th over, New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme smashed a Hardik Pandya delivery straight to Sharma in the cover region. A terrific direct hit from the deep by Vijay Shankar ran out Taylor for 42 off the last ball of the 19th over to add to India's excellent effort in the field.
