The Celtics, who received the No. 3 pick and a future first-rounder, then chose Jayson Tatum after the Los Angeles Lakers selected Lonzo Ball at No. 2 overall.

Fultz, the former first-round pick from Washington, needs a fresh start on a team that will make him the starting point guard.

Fultz being moved to another team now cements his place near, or at, the top of the all-time busts list. He played 14 games during his rookie season and 19 this season before shutting down, citing the nerve disorder.

Fultz, 20, was going to struggle to see playing time following the Sixers' trade for Jimmy Butler.

The Philadelphia 76ers traded 2017 No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz to the Orlando Magic on Thursday.

For the rebuilding Magic, Fultz is a gamble they apparently believed was worth taking with nothing to play for in the immediate future.

For the Magic, who have been perpetually stuck in first gear trying to get their rebuild off the ground, acquiring Fultz on the cheap is a flawless low-risk, high-reward decision.

He added: "We look forward to getting him in here, getting our arms around him, understanding everything he's dealing with and getting him through it".

Simmons is averaging 6.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 41 games this season.

The Sixers traded Fultz to the Orlando Magic shortly before Thursday's National Basketball Association trade deadline, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

But the Lakers couldn't put together a strong enough package to the Pelicans' liking for the All-Star forward, who will go back into the trade market after the season ends. The Pelicans had been sitting Davis since his trade request. Marc Gasol was traded to the Raptors in a big deal, including Jonas Valanciunas. Plus, interesting Lakers rumors, including Carmelo Anthony potentially teaming up with LeBron James in LA.
