Da Silva Rojas was arrested Monday in Queens, New York.

"The arrested individual is also believed to be involved in the death of Valerie". "I was praying that wasn't her in the suitcase".

According to the complaint, which said "disposed of her body, resulting in the death of the victim", it is unclear when Reyes died, before or after being put in the suitcase.

Reyes, a Barnes & Noble store clerk, had broken up with her boyfriend five days earlier, according to Sanchez.

The 24-year-old from New Rochelle will be laid to rest today.

The victim's body was found on February 5 inside a suitcase discarded near a CT road by highway workers.

The road that led detectives to Da Silva began when they reviewed Reyes' bank records that showed $1,000 had been withdrawn by someone using her debit card at around 5 a.m. on January 29. Hundreds of people gathered at Glen Island Park, a 60-hectare island connected to New Rochelle.

According to CBS, da Silva has confessed to the crime.

Reyes' father issued a statement after her body was found.

Captain Berry said: "This entire investigation has been a herculean effort from the very beginning, from the initial officers on scene to all the work of all the detectives chasing down numerous leads".

A person was arrested in NY after fraudulently using Valerie Reyes' ATM card, according to Greenwich police.

When found, the complaint said Reyes was barefoot with an unbuttoned shirt and denim jeans. Officials said her hands and feet were bound when her body was found by highway workers. There were obvious signs of head trauma including bruising around the face and a large hematoma on her forehead. The pair broke up a week before she was murdered.

"Together with our partners from the Greenwich and New Rochelle Police Departments, we were able to swiftly identify Javier Da Silva, an alleged murderer, and place him behind bars", FBI Assistant Dir.

In a press conference on Tuesday Greenwich Police said that de Silva confessed to playing a role in the murder when he was questioned following his arrest. "This was a complicated case, and the efforts of the members who worked tirelessly on it should be applauded".

"At this unimaginably hard time, we are asking for love, support and respect to our family for the loss of my lovely daughter Valerie Reyes who is now resting in heaven", he said.

News of the arrest came on the same day as Reyes's mourning loved ones paid tribute to her at an emotional wake.
