On Saturday, the President Trump's 2020 campaign called her a "fraud" minutes before she made her announcement.

"Our fight is for big, structural change", said the MA senator, who throughout her speech invoked popular policies like Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, a wealth tax, and ambitious criminal justice reform. She'll spend Sunday in Iowa, where the nation's leadoff caucuses will be the first test of the Democratic field's mettle.

Following the formation of a presidential exploratory committee on December 31, Warren had a successful first month on the campaign trail, making well-received trips to Iowa and New Hampshire with her message of taking on a corrupt political and economic system. She laid out the vision for her presidency in the video as one in which democracy and our economy "work for all of us".

Warren, a Harvard Law School professor-turned-senator, may be the most well-known figure to enter the presidential race.

Her profile started to rise in the late 2000s for her commanding attitudes in favour of more rigorous regulations in response to the 2007-2008 financial crisis.

Donald Trump says he isn't concerned about potentially squaring off against Elizabeth Warren in the 2020 USA presidential election. Other Democrats are also speaking out on inequality, but Warren is hitting particularly hard on the notion of creating new operating rules for the capitalist system. Kamala Harris of California and Bernie Sanders of Vermont. "I say it's time to fight back".

Since being elected to the Senate in 2012, Warren has stood on the most progressive end of the Democratic Party, advocating higher taxes on the wealthy and consumer protections. A year before any ballots are cast in a Democratic primary, many of those candidates are spending this weekend talking to voters in the early-nominating states of Iowa, New Hampshire and SC. Kirsten Gillibrand has also announced an exploratory committee. Another possible presidential rival, Ohio Sen. And as a senator from Vermont who won the New Hampshire primary, he would likely go into the Granite State as an early favourite if he chose to run again.

Ms Warren's crossover into politics began with her opposing what turned into a 2005 act limiting bankruptcy access for individuals.

In the days leading up to Saturday's announcement, Warren has been weighed down by new questions over her past claims to Native American heritage.

The expected launch will test whether the controversy is simply a Washington obsession or a substantive threat to her candidacy. The Washington Post reported that Warren wrote in 1986 that her race was "American Indian" in a Texas state bar registration card, adding to the list of instances in which the senator self-identified this way.

Kennedy's decision to throw his support to his home state senator - and not his good friend, former Rep. Beto O'Rourke, who is considering a bid of his own - is a clear signal to fellow Democrats that she remains a serious primary contender despite a politically trying week.
