Some people tried to explain the lobbying group's influence, with one person drawing attention to a tweet by the US Ambassador to Israel that described AIPAC as "Israel's national strategic asset". "Now she tweets that if Members of Congress support Israel then they were bought off by Jews".

Omar recently apologized for a 2012 tweet in which she accused Israel of "hypnotizing" the world, acknowledging that she had unwittingly echoed anti-Semitic themes. Minnesota Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan called on Minnesota Democrats, including Sen. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee is the largest pro-Israel lobby in America and apparently Omar's target. "I think it is actually exciting because we are finally able to have conversations that we weren't really willing to before", she told CNN.

"It's important now that the Democratic leadership come forward and denounce this wing of the party and the people from it who carry on with this type of anti-Semitic language".

"She's talking about the influence of Israel and this immediately gets twisted into antisemitism", one man wrote in comments retweeted by Omar.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn, reportedly retweeted then deleted a Twitter post that accused her of anti-Semitism after she was called out from both sides of the aisle for tweeting that the US relationship with Israel is "all about the Benjamins, baby".

Shapiro continued on Twitter that "Some of us remained uncomfortably quiet after her BDS flip-flop & other offensive remarks because we were aware of efforts to work with her: by colleagues, party leaders, her local Jewish community". Alvin Rosenfeld, director of the Institute for the Study of Contemporary Anti-Semitism at Indiana University, said that "there is obviously a serious fight going on within the Democratic Party with respect to how to deal with BDS and some within their party who advocate for it".

Even Chelsea Clinton accused Omar of anti-Semitism.

"It is deeply disappointing and disturbing to hear Representative Ilhan Omar's (MN) choice of words in her exchange with a journalist yesterday, wherein she appears to traffic in old anti-Semitic tropes about Jews and money", Nadler said in a statement. "And I believe we can do that without criticizing people for their faith", Omar tweeted at the former first daughter.

MI congresswoman Tlaib said on Saturday that she wanted to highlight "issues such as racism and Israel's violations of the Palestinians' human rights".
