Mendy, who had been granted permission to travel in Europe, appeared to suggest he was at Hong Kong International Airport in an Instagram story on Friday.

He came on as a substitute during City's recent Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Burton Albion but has since suffered a setback in his recovery.

Mendy quickly took to Twitter to clear his name, joking that he didn't want any problems with Guardiola. Yesterday he's in Barcelona. Really I don't know.

"He's injured, it's not easy, meniscus, it's not easy", Guardiola told a new conference. You can't return and train for two days and then you are fit.

Benjamin Mendy's use of social media has frustrated Pep Guardiola. Guardiola also responded to Aleksander Ceferin after Uefa's president claimed City lacked class for failing to attend a meeting this week regarding VAR. "It will definitely not be OK if he is in Hong Kong".

Guardiola was left nonplussed on Friday, saying: 'I don't know.

It appeared he was in Asia after tagging the "Hong Kong International Airport" on Instagram. Before he said "I'm going to Paris", ok it's here, but Hong Kong is far way.

Meanwhile, Guardiola rejected suggestions that Liverpool are feeling the pressure after back-toback draws saw them drop below City at the top of the table.

"I feel they play good and try to win the games, I think they will be there until the end and we have to be there to win our games to decide the Premier League".
