Layton police in Utah responded to a crash Monday because a driver covered her eyes while driving. She skidded into oncoming traffic, hit a vehicle and a light pole.

The "Bird Box Challenge" is when those who play attempt to perform normal tasks while blindfolded, as some of the characters must do in the movie.

According to the Layton City Police Department, the unnamed 17-year-old and her 16-year-old passenger were driving down a major thoroughfare in town when the older teen decided it was the ideal time to play-act Bird Box. One YouTube star also filmed himself driving while blindfolded.

Lt. Travis Lyman told Fox13 that the 17-year-old female driver of the pickup truck was driving on the Layton Parkway with a 16-year-old male passenger when she made a decision to take part in the challenge and blind herself using a beanie.

For those that are unfamiliar with the concept, the challenge stems from the film as some people have decided that they should wear blindfolds and navigate their way around the world.

"I nearly feel silly saying this", said Layton Police Lieutenant Travis Lyman. "The stakes are just so high and it's just such a potentially risky thing as it is: to try and do it in that way is inexcusable".

"Can't believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE", Netflix tweeted January 2. "It really puts everybody at risk".

When the movie first came out, Netflix gave a clear warning to viewers to not try the risky challenge.

Authorities say no one was injured during the crash.

Lyman said police have requested the teen driver be charged with misdemeanor reckless driving.
