"He was a very nice man to speak to and we had a nice chat", said the Norwegian, who has a contract at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

United's caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken advice from Sir Alex Ferguson since taking up his position, and Pochettino is pleased to hear that the 77-year-old Scot - who underwent emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage last year - is back involved. I remember him when he scored the second goal in the injury time and how I shouted the goal of Manchester United, that was unbelievable.

Yet when asked about his memories of Solskjaer, Pochettino couldn't resist recalling his memories of one of the greatest moments in United's history.

"It'll be exciting. Obviously, as a Man United team, we're there to entertain and get people off their seats, so that's what we'll be looking to do".

Ferguson's re-appearance at the Carrington training ground has added to the feel-good factor sweeping the club in the wake of Jose Mourinho's sacking last month ― a move that instantly put Pochettino's future at Tottenham in the spotlight. I think that's our strength as well, going forward and attacking as a team when you look at us now, the way we've played.

"I think you're getting a bit of that now". "He is an encyclopaedia of football". "We'll see if we have a space in the starting XI, bench or not".

Pochettino said he was present on one of the greatest nights in Ferguson's 27 glittering years as United boss ― the 1999 Champions League final at Barcelona's Nou Camp when substitute Solskjaer scored a stoppage-time victor against Bayern Munich.

"When Solskjaer scored, we were shouting, celebrating, I don't know why. But the atmosphere was fantastic".

However the Argentine remains the first choice of the United hierarchy and faces a potential audition this weekend.

"Daniel is not an easy person to do business with", Pochettino said. We need to create a way, because in the last four seasons and a half, we were adapting us to the project, to the club.

Manchester United head into the game in sixth place in the Premier League table as they look to try and break back into the top four this term. Now it is at the top.
