During the delivery a male nurse pulled at the foetus so hard that it broke into two parts, it was reported.

The mother is said to be battling for her life after the incident.

After that instead of informing the family about the tragedy, they took the remainder of the foetus to the mortuary and asked her husband to take her to a hospital in Jodhpur as she was in a critical condition.

While delivering the child, one of the nurses was said to have "pulled so hard" that the baby was split into two parts last January 6 in a community health center in Ramgarh, reports The Hindustan Times.

A 32-year-old woman who was due to deliver had come to a primary health centre in Jaisalmer's Ramgarh earlier this month.

Gynecologist Dr. Ravindra Sankhla said that the staff of the health center informed him that the baby's placenta was still inside the mother's womb.

The police have filed a case under Indian Penal Code Sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 336 (act endangering life or personal safety).

Doctors reportedly then found the head of the dead baby inside the woman's womb during surgery and informed her relatives.

Dr Nikhil Sharma, the head of the Ramgarh Community Health Centre, said he was not present when Ms Kanwar was admitted to the facility and the two nurses allegedly conducted the delivery unsupervised. Dr Usha Duggad, principal medical officer at Jawahar government hospital said it was a rare case. He has claimed that the hospital staff were drunk and accused them of misbehaving with his family. The police, acting on the woman's complaint, questioned the male nurse about the botched-up procedure. "We have registered a case against two staffers of Ramgarh hospital and have interrogated them", he was quoted as saying.
