When a reporter mentioned the possibility of Chelsea winger Willian only receiving a one-year deal, Maurizio Sarri cut him short.

Barcelona were indeed one of the clubs that tried to sign Willian last summer, albeit unsuccessfully so. They have gone back to their previous transfer target Willian.

The west London club rejected three bids from the Catalan giants last summer including a £65million offer for the Brazilian.

According to Daily Mail, Barcelona are set to launch a £50 million player-plus cash bid for Willian. Barcelona then went ahead with Malcom.

Barcelona bought Malcom, 21, who have previously interested Tottenham Hotspur, after being rebuffed in their efforts to sign his fellow Brazilian, Willian. Unlike the previous season, Willian has been involved in lesser goals this year which seen Chelsea become the team with the least number of goals among the "big six".

But Chelsea have apparently turned the offer down, despite the fact that Willian only has 18 months left on his contract and the fact that Malcom could form part of an exciting new era alongside Christian Pulisic and potentially Callum Hudson-Odoi.

On the other hand, Malcom is still young and has huge expectations surrounding him.

Chelsea secured a late 2-1 triumph over Newcastle United on the road in the reverse fixture and they can anticipate another tricky test with the Magpies likely to adopt a defensive approach to frustrate them.
