Father of PSG star Neymar denies Barcelona rumours

It's far too early to label Philippe Coutinho a flop at Barcelona or suggest he is surplus to requirements, but you can definitely say he has fallen short of expectations so far.

Barcelona could reportedly consider selling Philippe Coutinho just a year after making the Brazilian the third most expensive player of all time, if it means the club being able to fund a seismic deal to take Neymar back to Camp Nou.

He has lost his place in the side to Arturo Vidal and Ousmane Dembele now appear to be ahead of him in the pecking order.

United have 'contacted the agents of the football player to ask about their situation and make them see that they would be very interested in trying to undertake their signing, ' report Catalan based press Mundo Deportivo.

Liverpool received £4.4 million for every 25 league games Coutinho plays for Barcelona up until he reaches 100 in blue and red.

Seeking an opportunity, United have made their interest known to the player's representatives should he seek a move, according to reports in Spain.

The 26-year-old has been in hot form for Red Bull Leipzig this season, netting nine Bundesliga goals to add to the 22 he notched in last year's league campaign. The club paid that last season and will be due to pay the same amount this season - but only if Coutinho is still at the club.

The second clause will Barcelona pay Liverpool another £4.4 million if they qualify for the Champions League this season, something they are nearly certain to do.

That's because some of the bonus clauses they are entitled to following Coutinho's departure would be rendered obsolete.

If that's not enough to annoy Liverpool, imagine the fury if it was Man Utd that signed him and ultimately saw them miss out on that money...
