Washington state, where the couple plans to divorce, has so-called "50-50" divorce laws, meaning couples generally divide their assets evenly.

A Princeton graduate and successful author in her own right, MacKenzie was said to have been instrumental in helping Jeff found Amazon from a garage in Seattle, where they later moved.

The Amazon divorce could become very complicated, with reports the couple don't have a prenup.

Sanchez is separated from her husband, Hollywood talent agent Patrick Whitesell, who is reported to be a friend of Bezos.

Bezos, 54, and MacKenzie, 48, met and got married while working at D.E. Shaw, a New York-based hedge fund, in the early 90s. The two have reportedly been seeing each other for eight months, according to the outlet, which obtained photos of them together across five states and claims that Bezos and Sanchez's respective spouses were recently made aware of the affair. It said they took private jet, swanky limo and chopper rides as well as romantic hikes, and spent "quality time" at several hidden locations.

She's been labeled the new first lady of Amazon, but who is Jeff Bezos' new girlfriend Lauren Sanchez? The former Good Day LA host and frequent contributor to Extra and The View shares two kids with Whitesell and also has a son from a previous relationship.

LOS ANGELES, CA - DECEMBER 03: WME's Patrick Whitesell, Lauren Sanchez and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos attend Jeff Bezos and Matt Damon's "Manchester By The Sea" Holiday Party on December 3, 2016 in Los Angeles, California. Jeff Bezos, 54, is at the top of most list, and his fortune now hovers around $137 billion.

Yet, in lieu of this revelation that Bezos is, uh, seemingly less skilled at the art of seduction than he is at building multi-billion dollar empires, it still stands that he is literally the richest man in the world-and that fact has not been lost on people.

"We feel incredible lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for everyone one of the years we have been married to each other", the duo's message stated.

That's what investors in the world's most valuable company are wondering after Jeff Bezos and his wife, MacKenzie, delivered this week's bombshell that they're divorcing after 25 years of marriage.
