Clemson (13-0) will be playing in the CFP a fourth straight year.

Gathering in the Isban Auditorium in the Guglielmino Athletics Complex just past noon on Sunday, the Notre Dame football team celebrated its first-ever College Football Playoff bid after the selection committee announced the Irish (12-0) will be taking on No. 2 Clemson (13-0, 8-0 ACC) on December 29 in the Cotton Bowl with the victor advancing to the national championship.

Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame and Oklahoma - in that order - will battle it out for this year's CFB National Championship.

To this point, the largest margin of defeat by a playoff team suffered during the season is 23 points, which came in Georgia's 40-17 loss at No. 10 Auburn previous year. "We'll have a great challenge but one that we're excited about", Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said. Alabama has played in them all.

Ohio State: QB Dwayne Haskins is the Big Ten's player of the year, leading the nation with 47 touchdown passes and 4,580 yards passing. The Knights will put their 25-game winning streak on the line against another SEC team after beating Auburn in the Peach Bowl last season.

The victor of this game will move on to face the victor of Alabama-Oklahoma. Instead, the Bulldogs lost but played well enough to allow coach Kirby Smart to make that case that Georgia should remain in the top four. Saban, of course, endorsed his former defensive coordinator and conference-mate. Eight teams rather than four would add just one more game to the two finalists schedule and would add one more week to the season. Of the 20 teams that have been selected, only two have not won a conference title. I will continue to buy into the fact that no other team has been blown out by a middling team and made it.

Notre Dame (13-0) will be making its first CFP appearance.

A blowout loss to Purdue in October doomed the Buckeyes, but their second trip to Pasadena in 22 years is a pretty decent finish to an eventful season under coach Urban Meyer. I think it's a combined 50 and one [record] of the four teams.

We'll know before 1PM if Georgia is joining the playoff party or not. And sometimes losses can be nearly as good as wins when they need them to be.
