President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump are scheduled to attend.

To the Bush family, Pence said that "today, on behalf of the first family and my family and the American people, we offer our deepest sympathies". President Trump writes in his tweet, complimenting the official proceedings which have been closely planned between the Bush team and Trump White House. Bush was carried up the Capitol steps. As a candidate, Trump belittled Bush's son Jeb, a Republican rival for the presidency, and has long criticised the Iraq War launched by George W. Bush.

Former President George W. Bush will be among those eulogizing his late father on Wednesday, CNN reported Monday, adding that several other former presidents are expected to show up at the funeral.

He will be buried alongside his wife Barbara Bush who died seven months ago, and Robin Bush, the daughter the couple lost to leukemia in 1953 at age 3.

The Instagram account for Bush's service dog, Sully, posted a touching photo of the dog in front of Bush's casket with the caption "Mission complete" following the 41st president's death at 94 on Friday.

The former president will lie in repose at the church until Thursday at 6 a.m., after which he will be taken to College Station in a custom Union Pacific train for a private, invitation-only funeral service and burial.

He failed to win a second term after breaking a no-new-taxes pledge, losing to Democrat Bill Clinton.

US financial markets will also be closed on Wednesday to honor Bush, and the US Supreme Court postponed arguments.

Remembrances to George and Barbara Bush sprang up in the Houston neighbourhood where they made their home, at a memorial to the late president at a city park and at the airport named in his honor. She told Xinhua that she respected Bush immensely. "We could all learn from the example he set, and we could use more like him right now, on both sides of the aisle", said Carper.
