The writer, being a woman political journalist from India, now transplanted to the United States, is in a unique position to observe the three aspects that are critical to defining this presidency: chauvinism, gunslinger politics, and immigration.

Singer Lee Greenwood's hit "God Bless the USA" has been a standard at President Donald Trump's events ever since he announced his campaign for president. Instead of new blasts, he chose to retweet a series of past musings.

Two races which are of particular interest are Georgia, where Democrat Stacey Abrams is seeking to become the first black woman to become governor of a U.S. state, and Florida, where Democrat Andrew Gillum is locked in a bitter battle with Republican and Trump acolyte Ron DeSantis.

Trump told a rally crowd in Macon, Georgia that "there's electricity in the air like I haven't seen since '16".

But they also will be regarded as a verdict on the President's personal style, ranging from his language (welcome to some ears, intemperate to others), the symbolism he employs (refreshing to some eyes, racist to others), his bearing (bold to some minds, vulgar to others), his recasting of the country's political character (an overdue re-evaluation of USA immigration policy to some, a rash of nativist fear to others), even his lifestyle (honest and unvarnished to some, tasteless and tawdry to others).

Trump was on a hectic schedule of campaign appearances for Republican candidates Sunday, while former president Barack Obama made a last-ditch appeal for an endangered Senate Democrat in Indiana.

Just five years ago, the Republican National Committee reported that the GOP's very survival depended upon attracting more minorities and women.

While Mr Trump is prepared to claim victory if his party retains senate control, at least one prominent ally fears that losing even one chamber of congress could be disastrous.

"That's a big difference", he said, crediting his rallies for the influence.

Trump will be holding rallies in Georgia and Tennessee on Sunday.

In prepared remarks for a speech Sunday at an interfaith prayer lunch in Chattanooga, Bredesen said Trump will "have plenty of derogatory things to say about me".

Former presidents seldom are outspoken opponents of their successors; with the exception of Herbert Hoover, who was an outspoken critic of Franklin Roosevelt and his New Deal, they generally merely seethe in private. He said Democrats encouraged chaos at the borders because it was good politics. He says if Trump "is for something that is good for Tennessee, I need to support him in that".

With two days left before polls close, President Donald Trump is traveling to two traditionally Republican states as he looks to help put GOP candidates over the top.

"In House races identified by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report as tossups or only leaning toward one party, 47 percent of registered voters said they prefer Democrats to control Congress, while 44 percent favored Republicans", the Journal reported.

"Trump has hijacked the election", a senior House Republican told Politico.

Of the 35 Senate seats that are facing polls, 26 were held by the Democrats.

In the final stages of the campaign, Trump has ramped up his hard-line rhetoric on immigration and cultural issues including warnings about a caravan of migrants headed to the border with Mexico and of liberal "mobs".

Trump plans to spend Election Day conducting get-out-the-vote interviews with local media at the White House, where he is set to watch returns come in.
