The former Real Madrid Castilla manager knows the lot well from his days with the youth setup of the Whites, but the way he has helped the younger players feel bask into form in the first team is unbelievable.

Odegaard is on-loan at Vitesse from Real this season - and showing his best form since signing for Madrid.

Real Madrid has appointed Santiago Solari as its new permanent head coach on a contract that will run until June 30, 2021.

Fans will not like hearing a younger star shying away from responsibility and it's down to Asensio to start asserting himself on the pitch for Real Madrid - not the experienced players.

Solari, 42, had been coaching the club's Castilla youth side and stepped up when Julen Lopetegui was sacked after the 5-1 Clasico defeat at Barcelona in October.

The upturn has left Madrid only four points adrift of league leaders Barcelona and on the brink of qualification for the last 16 in Europe.

Madrid will be hoping Solari can emulate the success of Zinedine Zidane, who won three Champions League titles in a row after stepping up from Castilla. "I don't just say that now as coach of the first team".

"Everything goes very quickly, the important thing is the day to day".

Madrid were under pressure to give Solari - or someone else - the deal on a permanent basis, due to Spanish rules preventing an interim coach being kept in position for longer than two weeks.

"It's a great opportunity and it's a great club", Solari said.

Solari's maiden match as long-term boss is the trip to Eibar in La Liga on Nov 25, following the worldwide break.
