During Saturday Night Live - as the song shot up the iTunes charts and effectively blew up Twitter - Davidson addressed the breakup in an appearance on the Weekend Update. She sings "Even nearly got married / To Pete I'm so thankful".

Ariana Grande is a force to be reckoned with.

Grande and Davidson announced their breakup October 14 after a four-month engagement. "For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh", she said in a (since-deleted) tweet, then tweeted the phrase that would become the song's title.

Saturday Night Live airs weekly at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.

"Last thing I want to say is, I know some of you are curious about the breakup, but the truth is, it's nobody's business and sometimes things don't work out and that's OK.", he said.

With self-love at the crux of the song's message, she keeps an optimistic outlook on the future, shares her decision to focus on her relationship with "Ari", and repeats "Thank u, next" in the chorus.

But she then chose to make her gratitude balloon into a culturally-relevant balloon when she posted another pic of it, this time making it say "Thank You! next".

She's moved on and found a new love within herself. Grande and Davidson had a whirlwind romance that included matching tattoos and an engagement.

The chorus of "Thank U, Next" is "I'm so f--ing grateful for my ex".
