Longtime Clinton Adviser Guarantees Hillary Will Run in 2020

Mark Penn, a former adviser to Hillary and Bill Clinton, writes with Andrew Stein in the Wall Street Journal that he believes Hillary will make another run for president in 2020.

It's worth noting that Clinton has said she won't run for president again, despite several people speculating she might.

Penn notes, when Hillary's independent political career - "Hillary Clinton 2.0" - began in 1999, she "was a moderate. she emphasized her religious background, voiced strong support for Israel, voted for the Iraq war, and took a hard line against Iran". She has given mixed signals about a return, both ruling it out and musing on how she would like to be president.

Penn and Stein see the Democratic Party landscape differently from others who say figures like Clinton and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should hand the torch of leadership to the next generation of politicians like Senators Cory Booker and Kamala Harris.

Clinton, 71, lost the Democratic presidential nomination to Barack Obama in 2008.

"Dear God, please, yes", she wrote on Twitter.

Expect Hillary 4.0 to come out swinging.

And 'Mrs. Clinton will take down rising Democratic stars like bowling pins. When she ran for president the first time, Americans decided they'd rather have a first-term senator and former "community organizer" in the White House. She got crushed in the Electoral College, 304-227.

Clinton herself has not completely ruled out a 2020 run, telling Recode last month, "Well I'd like to be president". "Do you want to run again?"

Then she added: "I'd like to be president".
