I’m A Celeb viewers are praising Anne for talking about autism

Anne Hegerty became the nation's hero after opening up about her autism during last night's I'm A Celebrity...

Speaking on This Morning about her new presenting gig earlier this year, The Chase star - who is dubbed the Governess on the ITV show - told the pair: 'I've learnt from the best.

Rita, who said in the Bush Telegraph she'd been reading up on autism before arriving Down under, told Anne: "I know one of the characteristics of a lot of autistic people is not picking up on social cues".

Later, after learning about the high-level quizzing circuit, Anne went on to find fame on The Chase - which has led to her current stint in the jungle.

'If someone else raises it then I make it quite clear that I'm happy to talk about it'.

The 60-year-old was was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome in 2007, and spoke openly about her life with the condition before she entered the jungle, with producers reportedly admitting they felt "anxious" about how she was going to deal with life in camp.

"I'm glad she's opened up about it because then she can say, look I'm just having one of my moments because she's just got such a lovely nature and I think people don't realise that because she plays with alter ego that like meaney".

Anne said: 'People always say to me "Where do you keep your autism?" and I always says "It's it's behind my front door and I'm not coming in"'.

The Chase star wasn't able to complete the trial and shouted out I'm A Celebrity...

She explained that Asperger's makes her unorganised, which has given her a "cluttered" house that she won't let anyone visit.

He finished: 'Do you like Thunderbirds?

Joseph signed off: "Good luck in the jungle, I hope you win". I love them, my favourite is Thunderbird 2.

Meanwhile, Anne faced her toughest challenge yet on Tuesday night's episode as she was selected for the gruesome Monstrous Monoliths trial. "My daughter for 1 is unique and we hope to see you crowned queen of the jungle!"

Rita also admitted during the episode that she has struggled with OCD in the past.

She told Anne: 'It's nearly the complete opposite of you because yours is all logical and mine is all illogical'.
