Business ReporterZimbabwe has improved its global ease of doing business ranking to 155 up from a ranking of 159 for the comparative prior year, the latest World Bank Doing Business 2019 Report has revealed.

India was ranked 142nd among 190 nations when Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office in 2014.

A Hong Kong government spokesman said the city's improved ranking reflected "continuous enhancements in our business facilitation measures".

"The ultimate objective is to go to the top of the list", he added. On the measure of absolute progress towards best practice, India significantly improved its Doing Business score to 67.23, from 60.76 a year ago. This year, the region hosts an economy in the global top 20 grouping, with the UAE's maiden entry in 11th place and one top improver, Djibouti.

"The diversity among the top improvers shows that economies of all sizes and income levels, and even those in conflict can advance the business climate for domestic small and medium enterprises".

On the measure of absolute progress towards best practice, Pakistan improved score to 55.31, from 52.78 a year ago.

"Malaysia carried out six business reforms the past year".

"Online single window in Delhi & Mumbai has streamlined the processes".

Regarding getting electricity, newly-adopted regulations from the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission require that electrical connections be completed within 15 days of the application's acceptance.

During the first half of 2018, they said, China introduced reform measures to streamline its construction permitting process by implementing unified platforms for all building review processes in Beijing and Shanghai.

While talking to the media, Fareena Mazhar, Executive Director General BOI, explained that in addition to introduction of reforms, other positive data corrections also contributed to the unprecedented improvement in ranking of Pakistan.

This now takes 32 days and 9 procedures.

The most dramatic improvements were registered in the indicators related to "Construction Permits" and "Trading across Borders". The cost of permit, as a percentage of warehouse value, has also come down to 5.4 per cent, compared with 23.2 per cent a year ago. Also, it takes 1,445 days for a company to resolve a commercial dispute through a local first-instance court, nearly 3 times more than the 582 days needed in high income OECD economies, it noted. We need to crack the code and try and improve on the criterion in which we lack, the FM said. On area where the changing nature of work is causing difficulty in Belgium's ease in doing business ranking is Belgium's Labor Act of 1971 which enacted laws which limit employing personnel on Sunday and for firms to operate on Sunday.

Ghana's progress reflects reforms in three key areas.
