Breast cancer suvivor shares her fight against disease

Currently, with a pre-malignant breast cancer diagnosis from a biopsy, there are three options: observation, chemoprevention or surgery, all of which require a patient to make decisions while operating from a place of fear and unknown outcomes.

"Thanks in part to the determination and passion of Stop & Shop employees and customers, the American Cancer Society is able to be there for people in every community affected by breast cancer, whether they're now dealing with a diagnosis, may face one in the future, or will avoid it all together because of education and risk reduction", said Kris Kim, Executive Vice President of the American Cancer Society in the Northeast.

That's advice she has for other people going through breast cancer treatment.

Dr. Quist therefore advised her to use cotton to clean the area from time to time to remove such dirt.

Clinical trials have shown that for some types of cancer, including cervical, colorectal, lung and breast cancers, more frequent screenings does result in lives saved, although the overall benefit is largely overstated. Hormone-receptor negative breast cancer is a less common type, which doesn't feed on estrogen or progesterone, and doesn't typically respond to drugs that target these hormones.

Black women survivors are working to raise awareness about breast health and breast cancer in their communities.

The charity Breast Cancer Care wants to change that.

She said the higher the stage, the less likely a patient is to survive. While many women assume that it is merely the presence of an isolated lump that suggests breast cancer, the truth is that it can also manifest itself as scattered seed-like tumours that spread like tentacles across the breast tissue.

Sarah was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in April 2017.

As per experts, Early Breast Cancer (EBC) constitutes only 30% of the breast cancer cases in India compared to 60 to 70% of cases in the developed world.

The World Health Organization (WHO) prescribes mammography screening or X-ray of breast as the only cancer screening method that has proven to be effective till date.

More than RM60,000 was raised through sales of a total of 25 golf flights as well as donations in aid of Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA), National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) and Persatuan Kanser Network (KanWork).

"If the chance of dying from a cancer is small to begin with, there isn't that much risk to reduce", Schwartz said.

Feedback from participants who have attended the workshops has been very positive with one woman commenting: "A great incentive to stay healthy with a group of like-minded people". Early detection and education are key to breast health and survival rates. "Not a day goes by that I don't think about him, but it is that fuel to find out more about it".
