Details about the project are pretty scarce at this stage, but the movie is expected to be a two-hour feature - although it's not yet known whether Gilligan will be making a TV movie or a theatrically-released film.

Hit US television series Breaking Bad may have achieved that rare feat - a ideal ending - but it doesn't mean that creator Vince Gilligan isn't planning to write an extra chapter in the drugs drama.

Years after ending its fifth and final season in 2013, show creator Vince Gilligan confirmed to Variety on Tuesday, November6 (Wednesday, November 7 in the Philippines) that he is now working on a film connected to the widely-loved, famed series as its scriptwriter, executive producer, and possible director. Production kicks off next month in New Mexico. "For years we've built up the film industry in New Mexico and strengthened our film incentives, now we're seeing success after success for the film industry in our state".

It is unclear as of yet whether original stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, who played Walter White and his protege Jesse Pinkman respectively, will be involved but in the final episode of Season 5 of the show, Walter frees Jesse from a drugs compound where he was enslaved by a rival meth company.

If you need a distraction from the election, will the news that a Breaking Bad movie is in the works suffice? Likewise, it's unknown whether it'll be a prequel a la AMC's Better Call Saul or will take place after the events of Breaking Bad's epic 2013 finale.

Sources told THR that Gilligan is penning the script, producing, and potentially directing.

Gilligan will be at the helm and also serve as executive producer alongside Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein - both of whom worked on Breaking Bad and the spin-off.
