Apple announces fix programs for iPhone X, MacBook Pro problems

Apple blames the problem on a component that may fail on the iPhone X's display module.

As a result, some iPhone X models might not respond to a user's touch on the screen. Or, the display might react even though it was not touched.

Apple Inc. disclosed a pair of issues affecting two of its more popular products: the iPhone X and the 13-inch MacBook Pro. The servicing is done through Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

If you've experienced any of this, Apple encourages you to find an authorized service provider, set up an appointment at an Apple Store or contact the company's technical support teams, who will assess the phone. As with any repairs where your device will be undergoing major surgery, Apple suggests that you perform an iTunes or iCloud backup before bringing your iPhone X in for service. Apple says it will examine any iPhone to make sure its eligible for the free fix.

"Apple has determined that a limited number of 128GB and 256GB solid-state drives (SSD) used in 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) units have an issue that may result in data loss and failure of the drive", a separate Apple support document explains. The laptops were sold from June 2017 to June 2018 with 128 gigabytes or 256 GB of storage and no Touch Bar, Apple said in a note to customers. Apple also reassured everyone that these issues are only present on some iPhone X models, and the Xs, Xs Max, and Xr are not affected. If it is, Apple will fix the laptop, though you should do a full backup first.

You can check your MacBook Pro's serial number to see if your laptop is affected.
