Aladdin is directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) from a screenplay by John August (Dark Shadows, Big Fish) based on the 1992 animated film Aladdin and stories from "One Thousand and One Nights". The poster featured the Genie's iconic lamp. (Hence, the "diamond in the rough" line in the teaser.) The location ends up being where Aladdin finds the Genie's lamp, something that is set up by the teaser's final moment. Naomi and Mena looked ideal as Princess Jasmine and Aladdin.

Aladdin opens May 24, 2019 and stars Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Will Smith as the Genie, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahbanas the Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Jasmine's handmaiden, Billy Magnussen as a potential suitor for the Princess, and Numan Acar as Jafar's right-hand man. Music is by Alan Menken, who also created music for the original animated movie with Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. (And the uptick in caliber of animation should go without saying.) As such, Guy Ritchie's live-action remake of the modern classic has its work cut out for it, even if it isn't exactly vying to change the face of contemporary children's cinema in quite the same manner.
