Why has Samsung put four cameras on the Galaxy A9?

It's a sign of the times that it's nearly more surprising to see a single camera on the back of Google's flagship Pixel 3 than it is to see quad cameras on this Samsung device, with many other handsets on the market now including two or three lenses on the back.

Samsung Galaxy A9's quad-camera setup. This definitely sounds powerful but not as beastly as the one sported by the Huawei P20 Pro, one of the world's first to feature triple rear cameras.

The primary camera is a 24-megapixel sensor with an f/1.7 aperture that handles most of point-and-shoot needs. Samsung Galaxy A9 features an unspecified octa-core processor paired with either 6GB RAM or 8GB RAM.

Measuring 162.5 x 77 x 7.8mm, the Galaxy A9 is actually slightly taller and wider than the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, which has a fractionally bigger 6.4-inch display. A "long lasting" 3,800mAh battery is fitted.

The Galaxy A9 will cost between €550 and €599 ($635 and $690), according to AllAboutSamsung.

"Talking about the specifications, the Galaxy A9 (2018) sports a 6.3" Super AMOLED display with Full HD+ (1080 x 2220 pixels) resolution. From the always-on display and fast charging to the fingerprint sensor, facial recognition, and headphone jack, the phone keeps up with the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus.

On the subject of availability, Samsung says that the Galaxy A9 2018 will be available at all Samsung Galaxy Experience stores and authorised resellers in November, but fell short of providing a specific date, or even a launch price. So far it looks to be shaping up to be a solid mid-range Android phone and with a retail price of £549 it looks to be offering some nice features without hitting the insane flagship price tags.

At an event held in Malaysia, Samsung Electronics announced the Galaxy A9, a smartphone built for those who love to explore, capture the moment and share it as they see it. The Galaxy A9 (2018) starts at €599 in Europe and £549 in the United Kingdom (~$725).
