'The Walking Dead' Star Scott Wilson had died aged 76

The news was confirmed by The Walking Dead's official Twitter on Saturday, who sent their condolences to the actor's family and friends.

Wilson's passing was announced almost an hour after it was revealed the actor had returned for Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan's final episodes in Season 9.

Wilson won hearts for playing Hershel, a veterinarian, farmer, and father who survives the zombie outbreak and becomes a leader and symbol of hope before being murdered.

Scott Wilson was born in Thomasville, Georgia in 1942.

Colleagues and fans paid tribute to Wilson, who starred in around 30 episodes of the The Walking Dead in seasons two, three and four.

He appeared in more than 30 episodes of the popular show from 2011 to 2014 before his character was killed in the fourth season. Throughout his tenure on the show, the character was one of the most trusted members of Rick Grimes' inner circle. He also received a Golden Globe nomination in 1981 for his supporting role in the drama The Ninth Configuration.

This got us thinking about Danai Gurira and her work on The Walking Dead and in Black Panther playing two iconic, interesting, wonderful characters. Many fans of The Walking Dead were scanning social media checking for updates on New York Comic Con and the cast's appearance at PaleyFest when the news came in that Wilson had passed.

Frequent Talking Dead guest Yvette Nicole Brown tweeted that "he was a wonderful man".

"He said I had a responsibility to take care of it". His credits included The Heartbreak Kid, Hostiles, The Gypsy Moths, Pearl Harbor, G.I.

He lived life to the fullest with his true love, his wife Heavenly.
