The dismantling of the Redskins wasn't just on one side of the ball.

Quarterback Alex Smith was shaky all night, getting hit too often and not looking comfortable when he wasn't being pressured.

With the game well in hand after the two-minute warning, Payton subbed Brees out of the game.

The Redskins have a short week, as Carolina comes to town on Sunday afternoon.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (9) celebrates after a touchdown during the second quarter against the Washington Redskins at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Favre also stands between first and third, but considering Brees has thrown for less than 200 yards just twice since the start of 2014, you can do the math.

One of the most prolific passers in National Football League history has added a remarkable record to his long list of Hall of Fame-caliber achievements.

Brees, who turns 40 in January, sparked the Saints to a 2010 Super Bowl victory, taking Most Valuable Player honors in a 31-17 triumph over Manning's Indianapolis Colts. However, starting left guard Shaun Lauvao will miss the game with a calf injury - though how badly his impact will be felt remains to be seen, as some fans put blames for offensive miscues on Lauvao's shoulders. It was the first time in his career that he's been away from a team at any level, and he made his presence felt when he returned to the field. He had 250 yards and two touchdowns by halftime and finished 26 of 29 for 363 yards and three touchdowns.

There was no excuse for why the Redskins showed up to NOLA unprepared. And in doing so, deliver one more moment for the city he's called home since 2006.

But when Washington took the field, the defensive unit lacked the necessary discipline needed to stop Brees and company.

This game also features the return of Adrian Peterson to New Orleans.

It was a showing that didn't do Washington any favors as it battles through a division that is anyone's game.
