Nintendo Switch Online is Live Now

In a series of tweets today, KapuccinoHeck shared their findings, claiming the Switch Online app that houses these NES games treats them like plain.nes files, with a database file that lists in plaintext all of the other compatible NES games.

You can also purchase a monthly individual subscription to the service for $3.99 or a family subscription for $34.99 if you live with multiple people who own a Nintendo Switch.

In addition, if you have earned enough My Nintendo Gold Coins, you are able to use them to purchase a new subscription, although they cannot be used for auto-renewal.

If the secondary user is playing when they are "booted" by the primary, then their game will be paused, and you will be able to access it from wherever you left off when the primary user has ended their play session.

Nintendo says new NES games will be released every month until the end of 2018.

There's no Virtual Console this time around, so you're reliant on Nintendo leasing you the retro classics rather than letting you buy what you want at any time. Right now there's 20 games available with online play enabled.

This suggests that users will have to connect their Nintendo Switch consoles to the internet at least once a week in order to maintain access to their NES collection.
