Messi out of Clasico with fractured arm

Barcelona announced shortly after the match that Messi had a fracture in the radial bone, adding that he's expected to miss three weeks.

It was a costly victory, though, as Lionel Messi badly bent his right elbow as he crumpled down to the ground in a heap after running into the back of a Sevilla defender.

The Argentine star will miss at least six games, the most important ones are against Internazionale of Milan in the Champions League and the "Clasico" against Barcelona's heated rivals Real Madrid in "La Liga".

"We leave with a bitter taste in our mouths because we aren't taken anything", said Vazquez.

He was still in obvious discomfort as he left the field in the 26th minute but there was no blamed attached to the Italian as he competed fairly for the ball, but Messi's full body weight landed on his right arm.

Any joy at jumping above in-form Sevilla, however, was tarnished by Messi's injury, which will now rule him out of next weekend's Clasico against Real Madrid.

Barcelona's total win percentage in the Champions League with Messi in their ranks stands at 60 per cent, with 78 victories in 131 matches, as well as 33 draws and 20 losses.

Messi had already scored 17 goals in all competitions so far this season before his injury.

Messi started the game against Sevilla brightly, setting up Philippe Coutinho's second-minute opener before he doubled Barca's lead 10 minutes later.

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde insists he's happy with Ousmane Dembele.

'It makes a big difference to have or not to have him but we have enough cover so as not to worry about whether he is there or not'.

After joining Real Madrid for a then-world-record fee in 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo played in all 18 La Liga matches against Barcelona, scoring nine goals. Suarez buried the penalty.
