Melania Trump's flight was cut short Wednesday morning when her plane suffered a "mechanical issue" that pumped smoke into the main cabin. Back in Washington, the president mustered a joke about the snafu, telling reporters that he had spoken to his wife.

Aides brought the reporters wet towels, instructing them to cover their faces if the smell was too strong. "I said, I hope this plane's better than the first one".

The press pool reported that the about halfway into the flight, a burning smell filled the cabin along with "a small amount of smoke". The pilots quickly turned the plane around and returned to Joint Base Andrews.

Other details about the incident were not provided.

Mrs. Trump was traveling to Philadelphia to visit Thomas. The woman is wearing only a jacket, which reads: "I really don't care do u?", a clear nod to the controversial Zara jacket the first lady wore during a June trip to Texas.

She began her remarks by saying "sorry for a little delay".

She said there are few things harder than seeing a newborn suffering, and that she wants to shine a light on the issue. ABC News' Tom Llamas asked her.

"We need to educate the children of social-emotional behavior, so when they grow up, they know how to deal with those issues", Trump said.
