YouTube's sudden outage left many users in despair after the site went down for nearly two hours.

Twitter user Alex Creed pointed out the irony of passing boredom from reading YouTubeDOWN complaints by watching YouTube videos only to realize the service still had some bugs.

The Google-owned video hosting website initially tweeted to say it was aware of issues around accessing YouTube and its YouTube TV and Music subscription services. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will keep you updated", it said.

The reason behind YouTube outage has not been ascertained as of yet. "YouTube server goes down during a lecture on YouTube - first in history", wrote the Twitter user. A live report, even as the outage was being experienced, indicated that more than 2000 complaints had been received till that time.

YouTube is the world's second most-visited website. Earlier this month, users also reported Instagram went down briefly.

Disney meanwhile saw a chance for a marketing plug for its forthcoming movie Ralph Breaks The Internet, saying "It wasn't us" that broke YouTube.

After resolving the issue, TeamYouTube put out a Tweet "We're back!" As with other Google services, a downtime of this magnitude for YouTube is rare.

Users are being served an error message when attempting to watch content on the video-sharing site, which uploads 100 hours of content every minute.
