Brady passed for 340 yards and touchdown while running for another score and helped set up Stephen Gostkowski's 28-yard, game-winning field goal as New England beat back a frantic second-half rally by the Chiefs.

It marked Mahomes' third touchdown pass of the second half - pushing Kansas City ahead for the first time since early in the first quarter - but the Patriots answered with a score of their own on New England's ensuring drive.

He moved into first place for most career wins including the playoffs with 227, breaking a tie with Vinatieri. Mahomes leads the National Football League with 14 passing touchdowns, tight end Travis Kelce has recorded three 100-yard games, Kareem Hunt has already scored five touchdowns, and Tyreek Hill (three TDs) is a threat to go the distance every time he touches the ball.

In the second half, the former Texas Tech Red Raider showed why the Chiefs traded up to take him with the number ten overall pick in the 2017 draft, finishing the night with 352 yards, four touchdowns and the two first-half interceptions. That's when Mahomes hit Hill for the 75-yard touchdown. If a team is going to lose a game on its schedule, at New England is not a bad one.

The Patriots seem to have found a jewel in rookie running back Sony Michel. Mahomes was a bit off target with his first-half passing. "And, through the course of just being here just under a month, you know, I'm trying to make it work as fast as I can". They are 6-1 with Mahomes as their starting quarterback, counting the final regular-season game against the Denver Broncos previous year.

The Chiefs imploded with Alex Smith under center last season, losing six of their final 11 after a 5-0 start. But Andy Reid's team actually has done the exact opposite in recent years. Brady and the Patriots got it done, though Mahomes made them work for it.

If you finish plays like that and Brady, who had pump-faked, had indeed thrown the ball, Speaks likely would have been penalized. The Patriot amassed 500 yards of total offense, to 446 for the Chiefs.

Young quarterbacks have always had a tough time winning in Gillette Stadium during the Bill Belichick and Tom Brady era. New England's last streak of six consecutive games with an INT was in 2013.

Edelman sat out the entire 2017 season after suffering a preseason knee injury.

The Chiefs return home to host Cincinnati.

The Patriots have proven so many times that the team they are in September and October bears little resemblance to the one they become in December and January.
