"At moments like this it is the job of a friend to tell the truth; and the truth is that the killing of Khashoggi was a barbaric act to which we in Britain refuse to turn a blind eye", Britain's former foreign minister, Boris Johnson, said on Twitter Monday.

"The initial assessment of the Turkish police is that Khashoggi has been killed at the consulate of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul", an official, requesting anonymity to discuss the ongoing investigation said.

A man purportedly wearing Jamal Khashoggi's clothes was seen leaving the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul the day the Saudi journalist disappeared, according to CCTV footage obtained by CNN.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Sunday he would reveal the "truth" about the Khashoggi case on Tuesday while Turkish officials vowed to pursue the case after Saudi Arabia's admission of guilt.

Turkey earlier said 15 Saudis who travelled to Istanbul were involved in Khashoggi's disappearance. There obviously was a tremendous mistake made, and what compounded the mistake was the attempt to try to cover it up. If the supply gap created by disruption in Libya, Nigeria, Venezuela - as well as USA sanctions against Iran - were to grow as large as 3 million barrels a day, Saudi Arabia would need to tap its oil reserves, he said.

The crown prince has denied any involvement.

Saudi Arabia's Attorney General confirmed that preliminary investigations indicated that the journalist died inside the Saudi consulate after a fight within the premises. The deal "will allow us to intervene to rebalance the market in any appropriate time from January onward", he said.

Though President Donald Trump has been reluctant to speak out against Saudi Arabia and its de facto leader Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have expressed significant doubt over the kingdom's account.

Over the weekend, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said her country would suspend arms sales to the kingdom.

It has also blown up into a major crisis for Prince Mohammed whose image as a modernising Arab reformer has been gravely undermined. The kingdom predictably blamed the murder on rogue operators who will now be held accountable-i.e. scapegoated. But critics believe the complex scheme that led to Khashoggi's death could not have occurred without the knowledge of Mohammed bin Salman, the country's powerful 33-year-old crown prince.

Jubeir added that the Saudi government did not know the whereabouts of Khashoggi's body. An hour later, another Saudi official attributed the death to a chokehold.

"There remains an urgent need for clarification of exactly what happened ... beyond the hypotheses that have been raised so far in the Saudi investigation, which need to be backed by facts to be considered credible".

The employees said in their testimonies that they weren't given a day off on October 2 and left the consulate when their shift ended at 3:30 p.m. local time (1230GMT). We don't know in terms of details how.

Sen. Rand Paul told "Fox News Sunday" that the USA "cannot continue to have relations with him and so I think he's going to have to be replaced".
