NY state's Attorney General, Barbara Underwood, is looking for information about an apparent violent attack by extremist group The Proud Boys and will push for a "thorough investigation", she announced via Twitter on Friday night.

The brawl happened after Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes spoke at the Metropolitan Republican Club in the Upper East Side, which had been vandalized prior to his appearance, the New York Post reports.

Following the speech at the club, a longtime gathering place for Republicans, more than a dozen members of the Proud Boys reportedly roamed the streets and clashed with counter-protesters. Police spokesman J. Peter Donald said the department was reviewing video and would make other arrests as warranted.

One eyewitness called the fight three Antifa protesters against 30 Proud Boys.

"We believe we have valid [reason for the] arrests for those nine individuals to include charges of riot and attempted assault", NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea said at a press conference, adding that the raps could be upgraded.

In the wake of the melee, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo blamed Republicans and President Trump for the violence.

'It is revolting to see white supremacists commit a hate crime on the streets of New York City - in full view of the NYPD - and for none of them to be arrested or prosecuted, ' Lancman said.

A new disturbing video reveals another angle of the brutal fight that transpired between the far-right group know as the "Proud Boys" and a group of Antifa protesters in New York City.

Police are investigating vandalism outside the Metropolitan Republican Club that appeared Thursday night.

The note left at the club did not mention McInnes specifically, but accused Republicans of inviting "a hipster-fascist clown to dance for them, content to revel in their treachery against humanity".
