Lauren Wells, a political science student at USF, heeded Gillum's call.

DeSantis said Gillum would hurt Florida's economy by raising taxes and hiking the minimum wage. DeSantis, at this point has no position on the issue which is a problem 15 days away from election day.

New polls show Gillum leads DeSantis by 12 points.

DeSantis has run as a "law and order" candidate and on Sunday night he repeatedly hit Gillum on crime in Tallahassee.

Biden, who has said he won't decide until at least 2019 whether he'll seek the presidency in 2020, has been keeping a presence in early voting states like Nevada.

"It's an incredible honor to have the endorsement and support of Puerto Rican community leaders across the state who are working every single day for the people of Puerto Rico - on the island and here in Florida".

Gillum said that if he were elected, his opinions on the President wouldn't impact a decision to accept federal funds for the state. "That they didn't come from the right background or the right pedigree".

Trump's comments come the day before DeSantis and Gillum's first scheduled debate. "And Mr. DeSantis is his acolyte". Lobbyist Adam Corey, a longtime friend of Gillum with whom the mayor says he has severed ties, appears to be at the center of the investigation. "You shouldn't have to kiss the ring of the president of the United States for the president to see to the good of the third-largest state". He also hammered him over a continuing FBI investigation into possible corruption at Tallahassee City Hall. "I've been there, done that, got the T-shirt", he said. "And what we have done is we welcome [the FBI] in".

Gillum never directly answered DeSantis.

DeSantis brought up his experience as a Navy officer and his time served in Iraq. The truth is, you know what, I'm black. "If you promise you are going to do something, keep your word", he said. We can dissent. We can disagree. "I know that may not fit your description of what you think people like me do".

Noting the destructive power of Hurricane Michael, which many scientists believe was made stronger by above-average water temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico, CNN moderator Jake Tapper pressed DeSantis over conflicting comments in which the candidate said he isn't a climate change denier but doesn't want to be known as a believer in climate change, either. The question was based in part on a DeSantis primary ad featuring one of his children stacking toy blocks as DeSantis exclaimed, "Build the wall!" He wants to impeach Trump, he's always saying bad things about him ... "I've been black all my life, so far as I know, I will die black", he said, as some members of the audience laughed.

Asked by the AP whether she would support Nelson, she said: "I think I'll probably vote for him - he's a Democrat, right?"

"Well, Ron is being Don and that's Donald Trump, neglecting all sense of reason and facts. He's trying out to be the Trump apprentice". He's tweeting at him and he's talking to him.

Likening the November election to "reclaiming America's soul, for real", former Vice President Joe Biden held a crowd of supporters spellbound Monday as he shared a stage with Florida's top two Democratic candidates.
