It's late to the game, sure, but now that it is here and with the holiday season upon us, Apple is likely going to sell a lot of these in the coming months.

"The new MacBook Air has a 13.3" 2560x1600 Retina Display with 50% narrower bezels than its predecessor, and a modern-looking design that has glass coverage up to the edges.

Touch ID on the MacBook Air is supported with Apple's T2 chip, with an SSD controller.

The Apple MacBook Air is one of the most successful laptops of the past decade.

The CPU uses an 8th Gen dual-core Intel Core i5 (Amber Lake) CPU with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1.5TB of SSD storage. It comes with a headphone jack, but there are only two other USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 ports. It's also 10 per cent thinner, if that matters to you, though that has the advantage of it only weighing 1.24kg.

The new MacBook Air also comes with Touch ID for fingerprint unlocking, much like the recent MacBook Pro models. The new MacBook Air brings several new features on the iconic low-powered notebook.

The new MacBook Air has the big ForceTouch trackpad that 20% more surface area than the previous model. Now featuring a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution that amounts to 4 million total pixels, the MacBook Pro 2018 screen is four times sharper than the previous 2015 model. Apple said the new Mac Mini was up to five times faster than the previous generation, which is often used as a small macOS server.

While Apple didn't say the exact mAh of the battery in the new MacBook Air, they did say that it would able to last 12 hours of wireless web browsing and 13 hours of video playback. "And that is the MacBook Air", said Cook. Additionally, Apple claims its latest Retina Display renders 48% more color.

The MacBook Air features a brand new keyboard with improved responsiveness.

What's more, the computer is a bit of win for Apple's green credentials - the company says each one is made from 100% recycled aluminium.

While nearly all components and parts in the new MacBook Air are improves, it is the screen that matters the most. It will then ship from 7 November, with gold, space grey, and silver colour options.

Security is taken care of by Apple's T2 chip, and Apple has boosted the speakers to be 25 percent louder and more bassy.
