For the 2018-19 flu season, two deaths in Kansas have already been directly attributed to influenza as of Monday, according to Kansas Department of Health and Environment reports.

Health officials say two laboratory-confirmed cases of the flu have been identified in one adult and one child in the Central and Eastern Shore regions of Maryland.

The Florida Department of Health's Bureau of Epidemiology said in a report the unidentified child tested positive for influenza B and died between September 30 and October 6.

Doctors are encouraging children to get their flu shots by Halloween. Officials say the child was otherwise healthy, with no underlying conditions. "Although not flawless, the flu shot is a valuable and life-saving public health tool".

The first Florida flu death of the season has been reported. More than two-thirds of the 183 children who died around the country from the flu a year ago were also unvaccinated.

30 percent of parents feel flu vaccines are a conspiracy.

Rock says that other good practices to fend off the flu or other viruses is to wash your hands regularly, adding that you can get viruses from grocery stores, and or banks.

A third of parents believe that the flu vaccine doesn't work.

Albertans six months of age and older will once again be able to receive a free influenza vaccine.

"By getting the flu shot, you not only protect yourself, but you protect others who could have life-threatening complications from catching the flu", McGrath said.

The report noted that the child who died was unvaccinated, but the department did not specify where the death occurred.

The Department of Health office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
