Wilson, Seahawks fumble away winnable game vs. Bears

"I mean, we didn't get anything going in the first half". They'd only muster a field goal for the rest of the half with that coming late in the second quarter after another Trubisky pass was almost intercepted at the goal line by Justin Coleman.

"A very hard night to take - with tonight, and after last week - because we ain't used to this and we need to get rolling", coach Pete Carroll said after the game. He has strung together 19 fourth-quarter comebacks and 23 game-winning drives in his career and last season led the league with 19 final-frame touchdowns. "But I feel like more time I'll get more comfortable".

Chicago didn't waste time after the fourth quarter started to add to its lead, scoring on a 10-yard pass from Trubisky to Anthony Miller inside the first minute of the frame. But, if what the Seahawks showed at Soldier Field was any indication of how they will match up against top-tier defenses, those chances aren't good.

The touchdown helped cap off a night in which Trubisky completed 25 of 34 passes for 200 yards. "We want to build something here that is going to be remembered".

Wilson's two touchdown drives were vintage Russ, but they were sandwiched by two backbreaking drives. Seattle drove 75 yards down the field, capped by Wilson's attractive 19-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett that make it 10-17.

"Unfortunately, we wanted to do better in the third quarter", Carroll said. And if we can do that - which, I don't think we're far off by any means - I think the margin of error is really, really small.

(I left without talking to Carson because Carroll was beginning his postgame remarks in another room; by the time I got back in the locker room Carson was on the team bus to the airport).

Seattle, who made it to the Super Bowl in 2014 and 2015, hit back when Russell Wilson found Tyler Lockett for a touchdown but, in arguably the game's key incident, Bears cornerback Prince Amukamara intercepted Wilson before returning it 49 yards for a pick-six. It sucked to be able to watch.

"Just threw it a little short and that's something that I'm just trying to move on from", Trubisky said. "We had that chemistry to where I was able to shift the guy inside, he gave me a flawless ball and I was able to catch it". Seattle gained 1 on six total offensive plays in the entire third quarter.

After the Bears' Week 1 loss against the Packers, quarterback Mitchell Trubisky stood at a podium at Lambeau Field and faced questions. Leading wide receiver Doug Baldwin (knee) and linebackers Bobby Wagner (groin) and K.J. Wright (knee) were all ruled out for the game. And I've never backed away from that.... "We need that boost from those guys and the experience and leadership that they bring".

Both the Seahawks and the Bears were on the verge of the dreaded 0-2 start that has effectively banished teams from the postseason.
