An unidentified driver was seen plowing into emus in a video recently posted to Facebook.

This afternoon Victoria Police announced a 20-year-old man had been charged on summons with animal cruelty and traffic offences.

Police have revealed the incident occurred on Pellaring Road at Cowangie sometime between 1-20 September.

She added that the RSCPA was "shocked and horrified" by the footage, which showed the man appearing to deliberately hit the birds running from his auto.

"F***ing emus! One, two, three", a man can be heard saying in the video.

The 41-second video, which appears to be filmed by the driver, shows a 4WD with P-plates driving 120kph down a dirt road.

"This is f**king great", he said.

Mr Beatty said it was important the RSPCA acted.

An Australian man has been arrested over a video that allegedly showed him deliberately driving his auto into several emus. The RSPCA on Friday confirmed that the footage, which they labelled as shocking and horrific, had led to a nationwide investigation to find the man.

"Such sickening cruelty clearly has no place in our society".

"The community is understandably outraged and angry about this vision - as are we", the group's acting chief inspector, Cheryl Doudle, said in a statement published by SBS News.
