Twitter finally brings the chronological timeline back

It's been a long time coming, but we can finally organize our Twitter timelines in a way that makes ideal sense again. Of course, if Twitter's "Show best Tweets first" timeline failed to prioritize organic tweets from brands, there's a chance users will be more likely to see them when viewing their timeline chronologically.

Something to look forward to: Back in 2016, Twitter announced that it was introducing a Facebook-style algorithm-based timeline feature created to show people the "best tweets first".

On Twitter specifically which people use to get current events, this move has always been jarring and made the experience worse to be honest.

Twitter began showing you Tweets from accounts it thought you might find interesting as well as tweets that those "interesting" accounts found interesting back in 2016, mixing them up with the tweets you actually wanted to see. You will also be able to easily switch to the algorithmic timeline that shows tweets that are "most relevant for you".

Twitter didn't say when the latest update to users' timelines would debut, only saying that it would be in the "coming weeks". However, from today, users can also view Tweets in reverse chronological order by unchecking the box next to the "Show the best Tweets first" setting.

In the future, this update to boost visibility and make the feature to access could pave the way for an easy system to toggle between curation and a real-time feed without all the bloat.

After years of outcry, Twitter is finally listening to its users and bringing back the chronological feed. Fortunately, one user has discovered a method of getting Twitter timelines back into chronological order by muting specific terms.

Of all the many attributes of social media that might frustrate its users, a lack of chronological sorting probably takes top billing. To flip the "Show the best tweets first" toggle off, go into the settings, select "Content preferences", and flip the toggle in there.
