Trump Attacks Kavanaugh Accuser By Name Amid Negotiations For Hearing

Christine Blasey Ford opened the possibility she would testify before Congress about her accusation of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The only people Ford says were present for the alleged assault are Kavanaugh and schoolmate Mike Judge, both of whom say this incident never happened.

Eshoo relayed the accusation to Sen. Kavanaugh is scheduled to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday following an allegation of sexual misconduct from when was in high school. Kavanaugh has agreed to go. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., a possible 2020 presidential candidate, said Republicans were "bullying" Ford by giving her a Monday deadline to testify.

Panel chairman Chuck Grassley and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have said Monday would be her chance to testify. "You've watched the fight, you've watched the tactics, but here's what I want to tell you, in the very near future Judge Kavanaugh will be on the United States Supreme Court", he told supporters at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C.

Attorney Debra Katz said her client, Christine Blasey Ford, has gotten death threats and she and her family have been forced out of their California home.

According to the Washington Post, Ford, who had also contacted the newspaper in July, made a decision to go public after it became clear people were learning her identity.

"Judge Brett Kavanaugh is a fine man, with an impeccable reputation, who is under assault by radical left wing politicians who don't want to know the answers, they just want to destroy and delay".

He told the Hill.TV in an interview published Wednesday that the Democrats' attack on Kavanaugh "is no different than the Russian witch hunt" - a reference to the investigation into possible collusion between his presidential campaign and Moscow. He has denied the allegations.

Negotiations over the terms of her testimony are continuing.

Neither is it traditional for any subpoenas to be issued for the nomination process. Democrats have seized on the development as justification to delay the high-stakes nomination and say it's being rushed.

President Donald Trump has challenged the woman who has accused his Supreme Court nominee of sexual assault, demanding she provide evidence. With the president on message, GOP members felt they were successfully painting Democrats as having politicized the allegations. The FBI could investigate Dr. Ford's allegations in a matter of days.

Ford wants Kavanaugh to testify first and then she will tell her story to the committee, a committee staffer said.

In the new email, Katz said Ford's "strong preference continues to be for the Senate Judiciary Committee to allow for a full investigation prior to her testimony".

"Even more nominees will be confirmed".

Blasey Ford's lawyers have told the committee she can not appear at its hearing scheduled for Monday, calling the date Republicans set "arbitrary", according to The Washington Post and The New York Times. That aide wasn't authorised to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Trump's change of strategy comes as Ford's reps have begun to negotiate terms of her appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
