The New England Patriots very almost traded tight end Rob Gronkowski to the Detroit Lions last offseason, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Detroit will need an impressive effort to avoid a three-game losing streak at the start of Matt Patricia's tenure as he battles his former boss Bill Belichick.

"When Gronkowski discovered he could be traded to Detroit that week, he threatened to retire rather than go to the Lions, according to sources".

The New England Patriots' star quarterback has struggled to develop any kind of rhythm through the air tonight.

He is expected to play against the Lions Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, despite being limited in practice this week with an ankle injury.

That was a scenario the tight end wasn't a fan of.

The Packers already got a taste of Mack, who was traded to the Chicago Bears the week before the season opener.

Over the first two games, he has caught passes for 138 yards and a touchdown.

He reportedly suffered the hamstring injury during a promotional video that wasn't team related.

New England has been desperate for wide receiver help with Cooks gone and Julian Edelman serving a suspension.
