Regardless of that fact, Griezmann insists he is not only at the same table as Messi, but can get even better.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has responded to Antoine Griezmann's recent claim that he is on the same level as FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi and Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Griezmann, who won the World Cup with France this year, has been insistent on competing with Ronaldo and Messi where individual awards are concerned.

"Yes, I think I am now perceived in that light", said Griezmann in an interview with AS. "Ignorance is very bold", he said.

"They all won a lot of titles at home and none of them won a Ballon d'Or".

"Cristiano and Messi are above everyone", he told Cadena Ser. "Griezmann is still not at their level".

Ramos hit back at the claims made by the Atletico forward, and likened his situation to other top players who famously missed out on the award. I want to be the most complete I can be.

He added: "It's on my mind and I've got three months to give it everything (to win it)".

"In the previous year he was, without doubt, the best player in the world", Simeone said after naming off all the trophies and accomplishments Griezmann won during 2018.

"Everyone is free to express their opinion but I think he should take the advice of (Diego) Simeone, (Diego) Godin or Koke who represent the values that serve them [Atletico Madrid] well". "Still, I think he's a great player", added a furious Ramos, who insists, he can not support the Frenchman's assiduous claims.

Griezmann has scored just once for Atleti this season as they have taken only five points from 12 in their worst start under Simeone, but after suffering a tough period previous year he said he believed things could turn.
