Nixon, the former star of "Sex and the City", is also fighting for better education. The New York Times reported that the Cuomo administration offered incentives for the contractor to finish the job before the primary, and Cuomo's insistence that the state does not control the Tappan Zee contrasts with his self-presentation as an effective and engaged manager.

It's possible that no matter who wins, both Cuomo and Nixon could appear on the November ballot anyway, thanks to third-party nominations.

Making a pit stop at the Upper West Side eatery on Sunday while on the campaign trail, Cynthia Nixon ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with lox and capers.

The strength of public polling, the appeal of celebrity and the power of incumbency will be on the line Thursday in NY where Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo faces off against a Hollywood actress who has hammered away at the two-term Democratic governor's liberal credentials.

His remarks followed a rally outside of City Hall where other Jewish officials and rabbis decried the mailer sent by the state Democratic Party, which linked Nixon - the mother of two Jewish children - to the growing scourge of anti-Semitism.

The planned opening of the Governor Mario M. Cuomo bridge to replace the old Tappan Zee Bridge between Westchester and Rockland counties was supposed to bolster Cuomo's image as a can-do governor, but a last-minute delay changed that narrative.

"We risk diluting our fight against real anti-Semites when we call someone like Cynthia Nixon - who is manifestly the opposite of anti-Semitic - by that very, very serious charge", the Manhattan Democrat said.

"New Yorkers & all NYCHA residents its time to get JUSTICE", Minaj tweeted.

But Ms. Nixon, who is gay, says polling doesn't capture hundreds of thousands of people who have registered to vote over the last two years, and she points to a recent mailer from Cuomo allies casting her as anti-Semitic as evidence the race is close.

"I would have never approved that mailer to go out had I seen it in its totality", he said. They might not think she can win, but a vote for her might convince be a warning to Cuomo to clean up his act. Maloney, one of just 12 Democrats who represents districts won in 2016 by Donald Trump, must abandon his House race if he becomes the nominee for attorney general.

The flier was then approved by Larry Schwartz, another campaign volunteer who was formerly Cuomo's top lieutenant. Cuomo came into office eight years ago promising to reform the state government. "He controls the state committee", Nixon said.
