Police respond to active shooter on west side

Police are on the scene of an active shooting in Middleton, Wisconsin.

A Dane County dispatcher told Channel3000 News that they got the report around 10:25am, and surrounding schools were put on lockdown.

No details on the situation have been released by authorities.

The State Journal reports that the Dane County dispatch center said shots have been fired at Esker Software in Middleton.

The reported incident is happening in the town of Middleton, which is a suburb of Madison. Police set up a perimeter around the building, Madison.com reported.

A large number of emergency services, including a SWAT team and multiple ambulances, responded to the shooting.

"Please lock all doors, stay inside and shelter in place", the Middleton Police Department said Wednesday.

Middleton is about 90 miles west of Milwaukee.

According to our sister-station, NBC 15, is reporting the call came in around 10:25 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

Andrew King, an employee at an area building, said he saw a man with a handgun going inside another building.
