Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for "Bumblebee" - the latest film in the "Transformers" franchise - starring singer-actress Hailee Steinfeld in the lead role.

The Transformers series, despite good box office collections, has suffered from bad reviews - but this new prequel, without Michael Bay, could be its best entry yet.

Bumblebee will arrive neatly wrapped in United Kingdom cinemas on Boxing Day this year - and stay tuned to Empire for a trailer breakdown from Travis Knight himself. Some think it's going to be the best "Transformers' movie ever".

The most recent Transformers movie was The Last Knight, released in June 2017.

Set in the 1980s, director Travis Knight's prequel entry stars Hailee Steinfeld as Charlie, just about to turn 18 and treating herself to a junkyard birthday gift of an old yellow VW Bug. Optimus Prime dispatches Bumblebee to protect our planet, but the Decepticons somehow discover he's here, and they send bots not only to find him, but they even flip the script and convince the likes of John Cena's Agent Burns that he's actually the bad guy. (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Jason Drucker (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul), Kenneth Choi (American Crime Story), Ricardo Hoyos (Degrassi: Next Class), Abby Quinn (Landline), Rachel Crow (Deidra & Laney Rob a Train), Grace Dzienny (Zoo) and John Ortiz (Kong: Skull Island). Sure, we get to see more about the story, but rather than wholly focus on the relationship between this girl and her vehicle, we are seeing more of these Transformers and Decepticons than you can shake a stick at. Bumblebee hits theaters on December 21. The film seems to have a much smaller scale considering it is still a Transformers film.
