Kavanaugh Denies Fresh Harassment Allegations From College Classmate

The White House released a statement from the nominee Sunday after the allegations in a New Yorker article in which a woman, Deborah Rodriguez, a former Yale classmate, alleged he exposed himself and thrust his penis in her face during a drunken dormitory party.

A White House spokeswoman added in a second statement that the allegation was "designed to tear down a good man".

"As with any witness who comes before the Senate, the Senate Judiciary Committee can not hand over its constitutional duties to attorneys for outside witnesses", Mike Davis, Grassley's top nominations counsel, wrote in an email exchange with Ford's lawyers obtained by The Associated Press.

Tensions have been running on overdrive since Ford went public last week with her allegation that Kavanaugh assaulted her when they in high school.

Trump, who has also faced accusations of sexual assault, stepped up his defense of Kavanaugh on Friday, questioning the legitimacy of Ford's account in a series of tweets. There are 21 members of the Senate Judiciary Committee - 11 conservative Republican men and 10 Democrats.

Meanwhile, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Committee on the Judiciary Ranking member Dianne Feinstein, in a letter, urged President Donald Trump to direct the Federal Bureau of Investigation to immediately and thoroughly investigate Ford's allegations and report to the Senate as soon as possible.

Women such as Ford have to carry their wounded teenage selves inside them and watch the man who allegedly inflicted these wounds breeze through life becoming more important, connected and influential, unburdened by his past actions.

The magazine said it had not found eyewitnesses to confirm that Mr Kavanaugh was at the party, though one former classmate remembered hearing about the incident from another, and independently corroborated numerous details offered by Ms Ramirez.

In truth, perpetrators of sexual assault are usually known to the complainant, often a partner or an ex-partner; incidents typically happen in someone's home; alcohol is often at play in order to facilitate the attack; and an estimated 70 per cent of complainants never tell anyone, let alone the F.B.I.

The magazine said it had not found eyewitnesses to confirm that Mr Kavanaugh was at the party.

"Following Dr Ford's testimony, Judge Kavanaugh will appear again before the committee", a media statement said.

Ramirez was initially hesitant to speak publicly, she told the magazine, partly because her memory contained gaps because she had been drinking at the time of the alleged incident.

The White House and Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh denied an allegation Sunday made by a second woman accusing him of inappropriate sexual behavior.

Keyser separately clarified to the Washington Post she believes Ford, but does not have any personal knowledge of the assault. Senior Republican staffers also learned of the allegation last week, according to the magazine, and expressed concern about the impact this new allegation could have on Kavanaugh's nomination. The people who me then know that this did not happen, and have said so.

As Christine Blasey Ford's accusation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh lost all credibility, it was reasonable to assume there was a reason for all the stalling.

Hollywood stars and women from around the US, some being key members of the #MeToo and Time's Up movements, have also shown their support for Ford.

That question could be answered in dramatic fashion as early as this week with Blasey Ford, Kavanaugh and the Senate Judiciary Committee set to collide in a riveting election season congressional showdown, with pivotal November midterms just weeks away and Trump badly in need of a political win. In an interview with The Washington Post, Blasey said a "stumbling drunk" Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed and attempted to take off her clothing before she was able to escape. "We must ensure that a thorough and fair investigation is conducted before moving forward".

As Republicans considered their next move in private talks, they also made it clear they viewed Ford's offer as a way to delay voting on President Donald Trump's pick for the court.

He also rejected her proposal that she testify after Kavanaugh, a position lawyers consider advantageous because it gives them a chance to rebut accusations. I've pondered how her story could be squared with the blunt denials of Kavanaugh and Mike Judge, along with the lack of any memory of such an event by the other supposed attendees.
